Citizens of the future: How young people perceive social problems from both local and global perspectives

The paper presents results of research on young people’s orientation towards society key issues: violence and conflicts, unemployment, tolerance, environment and health. The purpose of the research is getting to know opinions and convictions on the foregoing matters in personal, local and global perspective. As a result the following findings will be presented: (1) the way of understanding the matters (2) the level of optimism/pessimism in local and global perception (3) sources, from which young people draw knowledge on the matters.

360 students from primary schools, gymnasiums and high schools, both from urban and rural societies, participate in the research. Methodology has both quantitative and qualitative character and is based on questionnaires and group interviews. Aggregation and data analysis will be conducted while taking into account age variable in three dimensions (11 – 14 – 17) and environment and gender variables.
