Polski system partyjny - idee i identyfikacje

AbstractIn the chapter, we presented the changes that took place in the Polish party system in the period from 2011 to 2015 regarding political identifi cations of voters on the left-right and solidary-liberal scales. In particular, it covers the changes that affected the electoral base of the main parties. Using the Polish General Electoral Study 2011 and 2015 data, we showed that the identifi cations on the left-right and solidarism-liberalism axes were subject to signifi cant changes on individual party’s level, although they show high stability at the population level and at the level of all active voters. In accordance with the changes in the main parties’ agenda that took place in those years, they gained supporters in new ideological categories and lost some of the old voters. In the case of the Law and Justice (PiS), the change of the electoral base was associated mainly with the acquisition of a large group of right-wing voters with different economic stances. In turn, the Civic Platform (PO) lost mostly right-wing voters, acquiring, though to a much lesser extent, new left-wing voters. Presented analysis of political identifi cations of voters creates a complex image of the Polish political system. We found that changes in the power of individual parties, resulting in the alternation of power in the 2015 election, were not the result of changes in political identifi cations of voters. For this reason, we argue that these changes cannot be seen as deep and irreversible shifts.
