Social Remittances into Family Lives in The Polish Peasant in Europe and America
Izabela Grabowska , Marta Buler
AbstractSocial remittances are all non-financial "assets" circulated by migrants across various social spheres. This is a very handy modern concept which might facilitate capturing intra- and inter-family transfers visible on the pages of The Polish Peasant in Europe and America (1918-1920) by Thomas and Znaniecki. Mainaims of this chapter are to reconstruct the process of transfer of social remittances into the lives of families writing in The Polosh Peasant and to showcase the outcomes of this transfer in family lives in the past
